About UsCitizens for Salem/Beverly Water Resources received New England Grassroots Environment Fund (NEGEF) funding in 2010 launching Beverly and Salem's Butt Bin Borrow and Potable Water Canteen programs, which are designed to minimize cigarette butt and bottled water waste streams generated by the numerous public events held in our cities each year. New England Grassroots Environment Funding:NEGEF's Small Grants Program provides grants to groups working on community level issues in New England. The program is based on the belief that "whole systems-thinking is critical to initiatives focused on making our environment better, healthier and more sustainable" and supports grassroots groups not reached by traditional funders.

Minimizing Copious Cigarette Butt WasteCigarette butts are non-biodegradable and litter beaches all over Salem Sound Watershed, excreting more than 60 toxins that harm or adversely affect marine life. Each year millions of cigarette butts are collected in beach cleanups the world over only capturing a small portion of this ocean pollution. Providing convenient disposal points stems the tide of cigarette butts entering local waters! Reducing Bottled Water Waste OnsiteSupplying public tap water at public events is an easy way to lower event carbon footprints. With BPA-free water canteens, tap water is provided and plastic bottled water waste is reduced.
